Ouyen United Kangas are celebrating their premiership wins in both the Seniors and Reserves. The victories are a rewarding achievement in the club's inaugural year with the Sunraysia Football and Netball League and as a newly amalgamated team between the former Ouyen United Demons and Walpeup Underbool Roos.
The Grand Final games played at City Oval in Mildura, saw the Kangas display wonderful team work and perseverance to achieve their wins.
The Reserves were playing an undefeated Irymple team but with great team effort, Kangas lead at the end of each quarter, finishing scores Ouyen United 16.6 (102) to Irymple 9.8 (62). Billy Latta was judged best on field and awaded the VCFL Best on Ground Medal.
The Seniors game was against Mildura and although Mildura scored the first goal after about eight minutes of play, the Kangas team were able to lead at the end of each quarter, finishing scores Ouyen United 16.10 (106) to Mildura 11.11 (77). Captain Brad Vallance was chosen by umpires for the John Groves Medal, and Josiah Farrer won the VCFL Best on Ground medal.
Ouyen United C Reserve Netballers played hard and strongly against Wentworth in the grand final. While not achieving a win the girls are congratulated on their valiant performance. Scores at first quarter were 9(W) to 5(OU); half time 13 all; three quarter time 23(W) to 15(OU); and final scores 31(W) to 22(OU).
