The poem "Sown with Ambition , Harvested with Love" by Max Fatchen, truly sums up the Mallee farmer's life. 2013 has once again been fraught with anxieties, starting with good rains and follow up, then a dry period in August September. We were amazingly free of frosts during the flowering period, however did receive a couple of late frosts. Headers entered the paddocks full of hope to be somewhat disappointed with the results not reaching what was expected - whether from frost or stress is debatable. However one must always be thankful for what we receive, maybe not the bumper crops that we wanted, but still far better than last season!
