Pink Lakes Pantry Footy Tipping Windup

Approximately 40 people attended the Bowls Club on Friday 30th August for the Footy Tipping Windup with several apologies received.  After nibbles and pizzas the Winner and Place Getters were announced.
2024 Winner was Simon Brown – 137 ($400).
Runners Up – Paul Lockett, Scott Brown, Callum Winslow and Gary Crow – 136 ($150 each)
Third Place – Scarlett Brown – 135 ($20)

Thanks to Lindsay Allen who kindly made and donated a “Wooden Spoon” which was won by Jan Taylor.
Entries were $20 per person and we had 54 this year.  All money is distributed amongst the winner and place -getters. This amount can alter each year depending on the number of tippers at the top.
There are lots of wonderful things that happen as a result of our Footy Tipping Competition that need to be highlighted as important things in our community.  It’s a welcoming and inclusive activity for new and older members of our community and those who want to volunteer and help out each week (thanks Paul), it involves all aspects of families sharing with one another, especially including grandparents and grandchildren, it makes the weekends during footy season enjoyable and fun for those of all different ages, for example, Henry Nathan is 7 and Ray Gloster is 97…that’s 90 years difference! I think this is truly amazing. Thank you everyone!
(If you were unable to attend on the night and were a Runner Up, I will get your prize to you)

A big Thank you to the Bowls Club for opening the bar for the evening.  There was a lot of “banter” going on around the room and a great night was had by all!!  Looking forward to 2025, Cheers, Colleen

Underbool CFA 2024 - 2025 Pre Season Fire Training
Thursday, 19 September 2024
4.30pm @ Underbool Fire Station

Our previous fire season was the busiest we have experienced in many years (busiest under DGO Col Lockett’s time as Captain). This included our brigade responding to a variety of callouts across the Mallee Track, varying from crop and stubble fires caused by lightening strikes, truck fires, car accidents and header fires.

Our ‘Pre Season Training’ session will include:
* Burnover Entrapment Drill (updated 1 yearly)
* Tree Hazard (updated 3 yearly)- You can do this at home online with a computer if you prefer - its quick.
* Live Incident Drill Scenario
* Radio procedure
* Fire truck familiarisation
* General refresher

We welcome our senior and junior members, newcomers and those interested in meeting your local fire brigade.

Firefighters, ensure you bring your fire kit. i.e PPE, helmet, gloves, goggles and boots.

Our Pre Season Training is vital to ensure we are prepared. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from others and gain a deeper understanding of the various duties that are required when we are responding to a call out. This enables us to be as prepared as possible, take control at an incident and return back to your day to day jobs and family, safely, and as quickly as possible.

We have some new faces leading our Brigade, who are experienced firefighters and keen to offer their experience, answer questions, ensure you are prepared and help you enjoy your time as a volunteer for our brigade.

I encourage you to come along as you never know when our volunteers are required to help you or the community.

Thank you.

Camo Gloster Captain,
Underbool Fire Brigade

PINK LAKES PANTRY PAPER DELIVERY

As you will be aware we have cancelled the delivery of Sunday papers but are continuing with our Saturday delivery for the immediate future (volunteers are having to drive to Ouyen each Saturday to pick up the Herald Suns and the Sunraysia Dailys). The volunteers have been keeping a record of the numbers of “shoppers” for the hour opened each Sunday and the numbers are very low. As a result, we have decided not to open the Pink Lakes Pantry on Sundays from this week for the time being. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but hope you understand that we are already asking so much of our very busy volunteers and think they deserve “Sundays Off”.
