Girls night in 2014
07 Nov 2014
Friday 7th November was the much enjoyed "Girls' Night In" at Underbool to raise funds for cancer research. Lynda Winslow's garden was an appropriate setting for the ‘floral' theme chosen by the committee - Nicole, Min, Lynda, Kylie and Helen.
Although the evening was warm, the shaded lawn area was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy catching up with other ladies while sampling the delicious nibbles that attendees had brought along. Colourful lanterns strung around the area added to the atmosphere. This year the committee kept the event low key and informal due to busy times and other circumstances in the community.
Participants were invited to give a donation - perhaps equivalent to what they would spend on a night out. Raffle tickets were purchased to be eligible in the draw for substantial prizes which had been donated.
During the evening, ladies were invited to release a helium filled balloon dedicated to someone who has been special or continues to be special in their lives. It is always a moving ceremony to watch as the balloons rise while reflecting on the special people who have been or still are part of our lives.
Later in the evening, the committee announced that $1400 had been raised this year with some more donations anticipated in the coming days.
Thank you to the committee: Nicole, Min, Kylie, Lynda and Helen - you provided a wonderful evening for this worthy cause and your efforts are much appreciated. We look forward to next year's event.
