Australia Day 2020 celebrations at Underbool
Underbool held their Australia Day Celebrations at the local Swimming Pool, which looked very inviting as the children and some adults enjoyed a swim and played with the water balls etc. Other folk enjoyed a chat and catch up.
The evening commenced with Vice President of the Underbool Progress Group, Mrs Joan Willsmore welcoming all in attendance and inviting Cr Min Poole to read the Welcome to Country.
The National Anthem and The Pledge to Australia followed.
Cr Min Poole, was then invited to address the crowd. With an “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie” and a resounding “Oi,Oi,Oi”, Cr Poole asked what does that mean? What does it mean to be an Aussie? Is it being able to have a swim in the local pool? Is it having a BBQ with friends? Is it Pavlova or lamingtons? It is all that and more! As an advocate for regional economic development and her many other Council commitments, including Deputy Mayor; Cr Poole is committed to openly listening and learning about local needs with a view to further achieve goals of positive social, economic and environment growth of our region.
Cr Poole enjoyed mingling with the crowd, getting to know the locals.
A typical Aussie BBQ was then available for all. Followed by lamingtons, Pavlova, tea and coffee.
As the event was cohosted by Underbool Progress Committee and Aligned Leisure, the Underbool and District Community expresses appreciation for the efforts of Aligned Leisure who manage and greatly support our local pool. This is a much valued asset in our town. Our grateful thanks.
Underbool Progress Committee also thank Mildura Rural City Council for sponsorship again this year. Also much appreciated.
